5 Things to Prepare for Your Dumpster Rental

So, you’ve made the decision—you’re finally tackling that overcrowded basement or starting the kitchen remodel you’ve been putting off. No matter the project, renting a dumpster is a great way to get the job done faster and more efficiently.
If you’ve never rented one before, a little preparation goes a long way. Here are five key things to keep in mind before your dumpster arrives:

1. Choose the Right Size Dumpster

Selecting the right size can be tricky. At Cannonsburg Wood Products, we offer 15, 20, 30, and 40-yard dumpsters—holding approximately 4 to 20 pickup truck loads based on size.
While it’s not always possible to be exact, take a good look at your project and make your best estimate. When in doubt, going slightly larger can save you time and hassle.

2. Make space for your dumpster

Dumpsters are large, and having enough space ready is essential. Plan ahead and choose a location that’s both close to your project area and accessible for our truck (taking into account overhead lines and low-hanging tree branches).

3. Set Your Budget

It’s easy to focus on renovation costs and forget about cleanup. Be sure to include your dumpster rental in your overall budget.
Consider how long you’ll need the container and whether you may require additional hauls or swaps during your project.

4. Set Clear Project Goals

Staying motivated is often the biggest challenge with home projects. Setting clear goals and timelines will help keep things on track.
A well-planned project means you can maximize your rental time—and potentially save money.

5. Know Weight & Capacity Limits

Every dumpster comes with weight and fill limits. These can be reached quickly, especially with heavy materials like roofing or concrete.
Understanding these limits ahead of time helps you avoid additional fees and keeps your project running smoothly.
